Management and Team

The IPA team has extensive experience in the development and management of highly complex and innovative projects. IPA comprises specialists in environmental engineering and various other fields, and is therefore well-placed to carry out studies and projects across the various areas of environmental and sustainability consultancy.

Where necessary, the expertise and skills of IPA’s staff can be complemented through a partnership with 4Rs – Environmental Sustainability, by drawing on the ECN – Network of Environmental Consultants, or through other partnerships bringing together hundreds of national and international consultants and specialists who can be integrated into any study or project team across various sectors and fields.

It has an applied research and innovation unit dedicated to developing approaches to environmental integration and the pursuit of sustainable development, carried out using its own resources. In some cases, it conducts research in partnership with universities (IST) and research centres (CERIS).

Coordination

IPA is coordinated by Manuel Duarte Pinheiro, who graduated in 1985 and obtained a PhD in Environmental Engineering; he is a Full Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and the Environment at the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon (link 1). He has been working in consultancy since 1985, having carried out and led hundreds of environmental studies and projects, including environmental impact assessments, strategic environmental assessments, environmental audits, environmental risk analyses, life-cycle environmental assessments, environmental management systems and sustainability solutions projects. He is also responsible for the development of the LiderA system, a voluntary guidance and certification scheme for buildings and other built environments.
